What is the difference between cut herbs and powders?

Cut-and-sifted herbs are dried pieces of leaf, root, bark or flower. They keep their freshness longer. Powders are the same herbs milled fine; they mix easily but lose freshness faster once opened.

How much is an ounce of dried herb?

One ounce is about 28 grams. For light leaves and flowers that is a generous loose cup; for dense roots, barks and powders it is only a few tablespoons.

How should I store dried herbs?

Keep them in an airtight jar, away from heat, light and moisture. Whole and cut herbs generally keep 1–2 years and powders 6–12 months. Read our full storage guide.
